Self-Adjusting Welding Turning Rolls
Self-Adjusting Welding Turning Rolls – Automatic Self-Centering for Efficient Rotary Welding Support
Self-adjusting welding turning rolls are specialized support and drive equipment designed for automatic welding of cylindrical and tubular workpieces. Their key advantage lies in a unique swing-arm self-aligning mechanism: when a workpiece is loaded onto the rollers, the two sets of rollers automatically converge or diverge according to the workpiece diameter, achieving close contact and automatic centering without any manual adjustment. This significantly reduces setup time and boosts productivity.
Working Principle & Structural Features:
A self-adjusting turning roll set typically consists of a powered drive unit and an idle unit. The powered unit houses a drive motor and reducer, with a variable-frequency drive providing stepless speed control to rotate the rollers and consequently the workpiece. Each roller is mounted on a swing arm that pivots around a central axis, with arms linked via connecting rods or gears for synchronized movement. When the workpiece is lowered, both side rollers move inward simultaneously, automatically adapting to the diameter change while maintaining a constant workpiece center height and ensuring even four-point contact with balanced loading.
Key Advantages:
Automatic Centering, Time-Saving: No manual roller spacing adjustment needed after workpiece placement; rollers automatically conform to the surface, making it ideal for applications with frequently changing diameters and significantly reducing auxiliary time.
Uniform Contact, Surface Protection: Four rollers provide even contact around the workpiece circumference, preventing localized deformation or surface scratching; optional polyurethane-covered wheels offer enhanced protection for polished or thin-walled workpieces.
Smooth Operation, Precise Speed Control: VFD-driven motor delivers stepless speed adjustment with smooth start/stop, precisely matching welding speed requirements for consistent girth weld quality.
High Load Capacity & Rugged Construction: Heavy-duty steel structure with stress-relief treatment ensures no deformation under long-term heavy loads; high-capacity slewing bearings and components guarantee long service life with minimal maintenance.
Easy Operation & Remote Control: Standard handheld remote pendant allows independent start/stop and speed control; can be integrated with manipulators, positioners, and other equipment for centralized control and fully automated welding cycles.
Optional Configurations:
Roller materials: Steel wheels (high load capacity), polyurethane wheels (surface protection), rubber wheels (shock absorption and anti-slip)
Control modes: Local / Remote / PLC integration
Drive types: Single-drive / Dual-drive (synchronized twin motors on the powered unit, suitable for heavy loads or high precision)
Special functions: Anti-axial-movement device, speed feedback, etc.
Typical Applications:
Widely used in boiler drums, pressure vessel shells, pipe spool fabrication, wind tower flange welding, paper dryer cylinders, marine shafts, large rollers, and other rotating workpieces in SAW, GMAW, TIG, and hardfacing welding processes.
